Evaluability Assessment and Evaluation Project
Evaluation of Drug Abuse Prevention Programs for Children

This project had two distinct phases. In phase 1, an evaluability assessment of eleven community-based substance abuse prevention programs was conducted. The evaluability assessment served to identify which programs were suitable for an outcome evaluation. In phase 2, an outcome evaluation was implemented with identified sites. Sites not participating in the outcome evaluation focused efforts on program enhancement and process evaluation.

The Arizona Parents Commission on Drug Education and Prevention, which funded these prevention programs, seeks to increase and enhance parental involvement, education and awareness about the serious risks and public health problems caused by the abuse of alcohol and controlled substances.

The evaluation project also provided the Parents Commission with information and recommendations to enhance grant program administration, organizational capacity, and technical assistance and support to grantees.
