Never Shake a Baby Arizona

Evaluation Project with Prevent Child Abuse, Inc.

Prevent Child Abuse, Inc. began the Never Shake a Baby Arizona Program in July 2001. The program is funded by the Child Abuse License Plate Fund. The goal of the program is to reduce the incidence of Shaken Baby Syndrome through research-based, systematic prevention education aimed at new parents. Year One of the project consisted of formation of a state-wide task force, and development of a pilot educational program. Two sites were identified for the pilot program: University Medical Center in Tucson and Flagstaff Regional Hospital. Educational programming began in 2003 and consists of a short educational program for parents of newborn infants, conducted before discharge from the hospital. The education program is based on a program currently being implemented in Western New York State and Utah.

LeCroy & Milligan Associates, Inc. has been asked to provide process and outcome evaluations. Annual reports are completed in June.
